12 - 13 Dec - Highland Stool Making Course - Winter
Out of stock
Come and spend a relaxing weekend in the workshop creating a piece of handmade furniture. You will learn a wide range of traditional "Green Woodworking" techniques. Using hand tools and locally sourced hardwood you will be guided through the process of making your very own stool.
This course is slightly different from the main summer course. We will be working in an inside environment and although we won't be surrounded by beautiful woodlands, you will get the opportunity to use more hand tools and pay a little more 'attention to detail' in the finishing stages of your stool.
Choosing the correct timber
Cleaving a log using metal wedges and a Froe (traditional hand tool)
Working the legs using a shave horse, drawknife and spokeshave
Jointing using a traditional method to create a wedged mortice and tenon joint
Shaping the hardwood seat with handtools
Sanding and finishing
£210 plus cost of hardwood top.
Course price does not include the hardwood top for your stool. You will get to choose from a selection and this is payable on the day. Estimated cost is between £10 - £40.
Course starts at 10am on the first day and 9am thereafter, we will aim to finish around 5pm each day. A simple warming lunch of soup and a roll will be provided. Tea, Coffee and biscuits will be available all day long. Click HERE for a location map and a list of various nearby accommodation. All tools and materials included.
